Beth and Kelly are librarians, and former reporters, with a knack for finding and telling a good story.
Listen each week as we get together to dish about the old crazies and new weirdos, and learn that ultimately we are all connected and closer to the edge of the bizarre than we ever thought.
Happy New Year and Go Fuck yourself 2022!
Alright Dash Hounds, Beth and Kelly have had quite a year. The year of 2022 started with Kelly and her family getting Covid in January and Beth and her family getting it in December. So yeah, 2022 was book-ended by the fear inducing pandemic that has shaped our lives-for good or bad, you decide. And in between abortion was made illegal in many states. Wars were initiated, and continued, school shootings and racism keep showing us why America is not great at all, and our future is clouded by Elon Musk.
Instead of giving you an actual recording to listen to this final week of the year, we would like to give you some reasons to go on living and keep on reading (listening), and share the podcast love that we send to you over the airwaves this 2023.
Strange Country started 5 years ago after Beth and Kelly saw the impending doom coming our way. Beth was turning 45 and Kelly 40, and our families were growing, our country was crumbling, and our uteruses were beginning their slow shrivel. The high-end lifestyle of librarianship, motherhood, wife-dom and weekly toilet bowl cleaners, was wearing us out and we needed more of an outlet for our curiosity, disbelief in society, and writing. So we got married. We should have, really, since it was legal 5 years ago. But by married we mean, we met weekly in a 5-star attic studio somewhere in upstate New York, and drank wine, or tea, or water, or bleach, and have not stopped searching bookstores, libraries, and the Internets for the stories that you hear each week. Kelly got tired and overwhelmed with life this year and we have skipped a few weeks on occasion. We hope you forgive us, and we hope you keep listening. Our recordings are not only a huge money grab for us- they are actually a time we cherish as friends.
In fashion with the 10M blogs, tweets, posts, twats that you will be reading/staring at as your eyes gloss over this week to bring closure to this year and carve out the last bit of hope for the New Year, we are giving you our top 10 most popular Strange Country episodes These have been chosen by the sheer fact that they had over 1,000 downloads!
